Craigie's Farm Shop and Cafe, Edinburgh
Business Information and Rating
Situated just off the A90 road toward the Forth Bridge and signed from the Dalmeny turn-off, Craigie\'s is a large modern-style barn perched on the hill overlooking a working farm with views to the Forth and the Pentlands. Inside, the light and airy café has a steep sloping roof and suspended lighting, and shares a space with a butchery, deli counter and grocery shop, yet there\'s plenty of room for all. Craigie\'s pride themselves on serving local produce, and much of the food on the menu has been brought in from surrounding Lothian suppliers. Panini and platters are the main staples, with home-made stews, frittatas and a soup of the day also keeping the open kitchen busy. A selection of salmon or liver pâtés served with crunchy salad makes for a hearty starter, presented with Craigie\'s own chutney and some home-baked oatcakes. From the blackboard a thick slice of frittata has a rustic feel, being stuffed to bursting with courgette, red pepper, onions and tomato, while the pork and apple burger is chunky and juicy with a fruity after-burn. With a large outdoor deck and views over the strawberry tunnels, Craigie\'s is an ideal lunch or breakfast stop for those who want to dawdle, shop or shake off the city hum.
